How to Create an Avatar — 8 Comments

  1. Good one to make your comment stand out of the rest of the crowd and get some importance. Also gravatar has a profile page to set up your links too. blogs are tightly coupled with gravatar..

    • Jai, as you mention, you can set up your links in gravatar too. I also found that you can add your social media accounts. Gravatar is a handy tool for lifting your profile online.

      • I didn’t realize that you could add lnks to your websites in Gravatar until reading your comments. The learning goes both ways when you write a blog! Thanks for teaching me something new.

  2. Lesa,
After posting my first ever comments on your post about blog commenting, I was somewhat baffled as to why you had a pretty picture next to your comment and I instead had a random, generic image. As a result I started to look for ways to load my personal avatar onto your site. Then I realised what a nuisance it would be if I had to do that on every site I posted a comment on.

It was at this time that I came across your blog on how to set up a gravatar. To be honest, I didn’t even know what a gravatar was. In fact, I probably saw your blog on gravatars previously but didn’t pay much attention to it because I was unfamiliar with the term and it seemed irrelevant to me. How wrong could I have been. I’d very much doubt I would’ve been bothered to upload my avatar every time I posted a comment on a new site.

Now, I too can have a pretty picture (well, sort of).

    • Maria, I actually created and posted the article on gravatars AFTER you submitted your comments, so you couldn’t have seen it earlier. Glad you found it useful… you represent the audience I was writing it for. And, it is nice to see your beautiful face when reading and responding to your comments.

  3. Lesa, it was actually my husband that noticed some of the extra features of Gravatar. He says you can add them by updating your profile. You should then be able to hover over your avatar to bring up all the information, not that he has been able to get this to work. Just watch the short video on the Gravatar homepage.

I should mention that it was also my husband that told me about your blog commenting tribe. He saw it in your newsletter, which he subscribes to.
